All about Match Questions – OkCupid

Part of what makes OkCupid different (we might even say better) is our match questions that let you define yourself and what's important to you. Your match percentage with someone shows at a glance how compatible we think you are, but sometimes you want to dig deeper to see if they might want to join your Game of Thrones viewing party, or split that pineapple pizza with you. We have about 4,000 questions in our system, and we're adding more every day!

Don't worry though, you don't need to answer all 4,000! We suggest answering between 50 and 100 to get started. It sounds like a lot, but the more you tell us about yourself and what you're looking for, the better we can do at helping you find that special someone!

✅ When you're viewing someone's profile, tap or click your match percentage to compare your answers to match questions.

✅ You'll see questions you've both marked as important right at the top, followed by questions you've marked important, followed by questions they've marked important. Below that, you'll still see all the questions you've both answered publicly, but neither marked important.

You can compare answers to any match questions that you’ve both answered publicly.

If you’re not seeing many question on someone’s profile, they’ve answered those questions privately, or you haven't answered that question yet.

How do I re-answer Match Questions?

You can re-answer a question on the web by clicking "re-answer" next to the question.

On the app, tap the question you'd like to re-answer. Make any changes you'd like, then tap Submit.

Once you've answered a question, you can't fully remove it or un-answer it. You can mark it "Irrelevant" and set your answer to private (so other members won't be able to see your answer) if you'd prefer.

We answered the same way but our questions don't match

This is because we also take into account the importance level that both of you have selected. Even if you choose the same answer, if one of you said it's "very important" and the other says it's "irrelevant" then it doesn't count as a match.

Why are OkCupid's Questions US-Centric?

OkCupid is an American company and most of the people who use OkCupid are based in America. Because of that, some of our questions will be specific to this country, especially political questions which are very important to people these days.

Of course, we recognize that not everyone on OkCupid is in America, and we have plenty of general questions that will apply to everyone. Please feel free to skip any questions that don't apply to you!

That said, we DO ask specific questions for people in other countries, based around the customs, politics, and pop culture in each country! So if you're not in the US, keep an eye out for questions that will be more relevant to you.
